Available Staff Positions

  • Directors: 21+ years old
  • Adult Staff: 18+ years old
  • Youth Staff: 16-17 years old

We’re especially looking for staff who are passionate about the outdoors! If you enjoy teaching about the Outdoor Code, Leave No Trace, plants, wildlife, animal signs, fishing, or even crawdading, we’d love to have you on our team. Fun activities for Scouts may include nature hikes, scavenger hunts, identifying animal tracks and scat, and learning about the food chain through bug hunts. We also use animal furs and skulls to explore different species and their unique attributes.

All staff members are expected to commit to the full camp season and attend both training weekends. However, exceptions can be made for those attending other summer camps with their Troops—handled on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to applicants who can commit to the entire season.

If you have any questions, please email us at GCC.Program@grandcanyonbsa.org.

Join the Experience at R-C Scout Ranch!

At R-C Scout Ranch, we offer a wide range of fun and educational activities that immerse Scouts in the outdoors, build essential life skills, and provide lifelong memories. Whether it’s learning sportsmanship on the playing field, discovering the importance of conservation, or mastering marksmanship, each program area is designed to challenge Scouts while ensuring they have a great time. Here’s a glimpse of what awaits you:

Sports and Fitness

At R-C Scout Ranch, we emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and staying active while having fun. It’s not just about winning—it’s about how you play the game. Scouts will engage in group games like gaga ball, dodgeball, and basketball, learning new versions of their favorite activities. Our goal is to teach kids how to enjoy sports while staying fit and healthy.

Crawdads/Fishing

In partnership with Arizona Game and Fish, we actively work to control the invasive crawdad species in our creek. Scouts will learn about crawdads—their behaviors, diet, and impact on the ecosystem—before helping to catch them and protect our environment. With awards for the longest and most crawdads caught, this hands-on activity is a favorite. Scouts also get the chance to try catch-and-release fishing in the R-C pond, learning about native Arizona fish.

Wrangler Program

Our horse program introduces Scouts to the world of equestrian care and riding. Participants learn about horse breeds, equipment, and safety, before going on an exciting trail ride around camp. Safety is our top priority, followed by providing a memorable and fun experience. As one of the few Cub Scout camps offering horseback riding, this program is a standout opportunity for all campers.

BB Range

BB gun shooting is one of the most popular activities at Cub Scout camp, combining adventure with skill-building. Scouts and their adult partners learn how to safely handle and shoot BB guns under trained supervision. In addition to safety, this program fosters discipline, self-reliance, and sportsmanship. Scouts can earn their shooting sports patch and BB pin for their rank while gaining valuable life skills and confidence.

Archery Range

Archery teaches Scouts about safety, discipline, and precision under the guidance of trained instructors. As Scouts master their skills, they gain confidence in their abilities. Safety is a top priority, and each participant learns the importance of responsibility on the range. Scouts will have the opportunity to earn their shooting sports patch and archery pin for their rank as they progress.

Slingshot Range

Slingshots offer a unique and exciting challenge for Scouts at camp. Many Scouts have never had the chance to use a slingshot, and this activity provides both fun and learning. While slingshots are enjoyable, they are not toys, and Scouts must follow all safety rules to participate. Each Scout can earn their shooting sports patch and corresponding pin as part of this activity.

Trading Post

The Trading Post is a must-visit for campers, offering supplies, snacks, and souvenirs! Whether Scouts need help choosing the right pocket knife after earning their Whittling Chip or simply want to pick out a fun camp keepsake, our friendly staff are there to assist. The Trading Post staff ensure the shop is neat, organized, and stocked, creating an enjoyable experience for all.

Kitchen Crew

Our dedicated kitchen staff, led by our Kitchen Director, work to provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for staff and campers. You’ll also get to whip up fun snacks for special occasions. Alongside maintaining a clean and safe kitchen, you’ll have the chance to improve your own cooking skills, whether it’s a hobby or a career interest. Plus, when you’re not cooking, you can participate in camp activities!

Camp Cleanliness

Keeping camp clean and sanitized is crucial to ensuring everyone’s health and safety. The cleaning crew is responsible for sanitizing dining hall tables, bathrooms, handwashing stations, and more. With daily cleaning of staff quarters and high-traffic areas, you’ll play a vital role in preventing the spread of germs and creating a safe camp environment for all.
